[Food Review] Cheeky Chicky

Cheeky Chicky is a newly opened establishment bringing you the 'soon to be famous' Beer Can Chicken! But despite its name, Cheeky Chicky actually serves more than just chicken, they serve a fusion of Asian dishes guarantee to fill your tummy.

The whole atmosphere was laid back and cozy with cute doodles of chicken on the black board and comfortable cushions on the seats.

And of course, no meal that includes chicken is complete without alcohol! We were recommended to try this very exquisite Momo-shu which is Peach Sake. Tastes sweet and very easy to drink. They have a variety of other alcoholic beverages and beer.

And Cheeky Chicky's signature dish is none other than Beer Can Chicken!

As its name implies, this chicken is grilled in the oven with a can of beer up it's butt. Beer, as I was told. makes a very good tenderizer for meat. Therefore, after the whole thing is ready to be served, the chicken meat, even the breast part (which is usually known to be dry and tough) is soft and tender.

The whole chicken was marinated really well, grilled to perfection and turned out tender and tasty!

The beer was extracted together with the essence from the chicken after cooking and placed into shot glasses. We were told that this is very nourishing. I tried this and it doesn't taste anything like beer at all. It tastes more like chicken essence.

The helpful staff will proceed to cut the chicken into parts so that it is easy for us to consume. Also served with keropok scattered around the chicken.

Set meals with a mix and match option are available here too. Choose your mains (chicken, beef, seafood, salmon) and your sauces together with a base of either Hainanese chicen rice, pasta or okonomoyaki.

We picked beef in teriyaki black pepper sauce with pasta (pic above). This sauce is carefully brewed with a teasing hint of wasabi resulting in a sweet and savoury flavour. Pasta was surprisingly very tasty too.

Beef was also very tender and cooked till medium rare, just the way we like it!

The other combo we chose was prawns in creamy salted egg sauce with Okonomoyaki (Japanese Pancake). Salted egg itself was already bursting with flavour. We liked how creative the chef was :)

Side dishes like truffle fries, onion rings, cheese sticks, chawanmushi are also available.

Must also mention that their chawanmushi is made of a trio of eggs, Something different from many other restaurants.

If you are looking for a late night dining place, be sure to check out Cheeky Chicky for some chicken and beer fix!

Every time when I visit Thailand, I will always order this dish because it's simply yummy and it's found almost everywhere in Thailand.

I've seen the hawkers and food vendors whipping up this dish before my eyes and I thought it wasn't too difficult to cook this and so, I tried it for myself.

Handful of Basil leaves, pluck away the stems (bought from the chilled section at Cold Storage)
Some small red chili (cut and sliced)

1 tbsp oyster sauce (adjust to taste)
1/2 tbsp sugar (adjust to taste)
1 tsp dark soya sauce
4 cloves garlic (minced)

METHOD:
- Heat up wok with some vegetable oil.
- Add garlic, chili and some salt, fry till garlic turns brown.
- Add in minced meat and use spatula to separate them into bits.
- Add in fish sauce, oyster sauce, sugar, dark soya sauce, sugar, stir well and mix evenly.
- Add in basil leaves last and stir a while more till leaves are wilted.
- Serve.

*Best served with rice. This dish is commonly served with a sunny side up too, I ran out of eggs so I excluded this today. Can also add some long beans and stir fry together if you wish.

HONG KONG November 2014- Finding an accommodation via TRAVELMOB!

As some of us may know, ever since the opening of HK's Disneyland years back, the prices of hotels have increased progressively in HK.

For small and budget hotels, the average price is currently about $100 per night and that is getting a very very tiny room with just a bed and minimal walking space. You can probably just fit one luggage and squeeze your way around the room.

Hence, during my trip last month to HK, I visited TRAVELMOB and managed to find myself a nice room to stay for 4 nights during my HK trip.

The difference between TRAVELMOB and other hotel websites is that TRAVELMOB is a world leader in vacation rentals with over 1 million listings. They offer a large selection of properties for any travel occasions and any budgets.  And that is, you won't find hotel rooms here, instead, you will find rooms, apartments, houses, villas etc for your holiday vacations! The good thing is that some of these properties are even cheaper than hotels and it's easier to find something that suit your needs because they have so many properties in almost every location!

And so... after a while of searching on TRAVELMOB's very user friendly website, I managed to short list some of the accommodations I wanted to stay at. I wanted to stay at somewhere centralized, near the subway station, near all the food and clubbing areas so it would be easier for me to go back after clubbing.

I finally found this very lovely apartment at the heart of LAN KWAI FUNG area! This is absolutely the perfect place for me to stay, there is no other places better than this. It's just one street away from all the hustle and bustle and after drinking and clubbing at night, we can just simply walk back and reach home in 5 minutes! How cool is that? No need to queue for cab and waste time travelling back anymore. When you are in a foreign country, it may be quite dangerous for girls to take taxi in the middle of the night.

The apartment was spacious enough for 2 of us, it had a queen sized bed and a couch at the living area.

Another plus point is that this apartment is also very near Central MTR subway station, it's about 7 minutes walk away and along the way, you will pass by lots of famous eateries.

LCD TV and a small kitchenette by the side which is convenient if you want to whip up a quick meal.

There was more than enough space for us to put our luggages. Even after placing our luggages there, we had ample space to walk up and down the apartment.

A study area with a desk and chair is available at the side of the room.

Bathroom was clean and heater was working well. Soap and shampoo, clean towels and hairdryer was also provided.

View of the apartment from the other end.

Kitchenette has mini fridge, washing sink, detergent, towels, kettle, utensils and an induction cooker! (Can you even find these in most hotels at the comfort of your own room?)

There is also a rooftop located at the top of the building, there are chairs and tables up there where you can chill out and relax over some drinks.

This apartment costs about SGD$130 per night after taxes and cleaning fees. I think it's cheap compared to hotels. For a hotel room smaller than this, I may need to pay the same price or even more and they may not even have amenities that some of these apartment provide.

THE WHOLE PROCEDURE went like this:

1) Log on to TRAVELMOB and key in the place and date you wish to travel. You can find according to location and budget. If you have any enquiries before booking, you can always drop a message to the host first and wait for their reply.

2) After booking (full payment including taxes will be shown and you can pay via credit card or paypal), the host of the accommodation will contact you via TRAVELMOB and from there, you can ask for his direct contact and additional questions. For me, I will ensure I have their mobile number so that I can contact them directly when I arrive and also some directions on how to get to the accommodation.

3) Before arriving, I contacted my lovely host and he met me just outside the apartment to pass me the keys. He showed us around the apartment and even compiled notes in a file with lots of useful information like the wifi password, where to eat and where to sightsee etc. Very meticulous and efficient host.

4) Checking out was a breeze. We just had to pack up at the check out time, leave the keys in the room and lock the door behind us.

Reached Lan Kwai Fung in less than 5 minutes!!!

View from right outside the apartment, a nice church and taxis whizzing past the steep road.

Thank you TRAVELMOB for this wonderful arrangement, seriously, staying here was really the BEST PART of my trip :)

Learning Courses

Recently I'm so into cooking. I simply LOVE FOOD and cooking stuff which i love brings me a sense of satisfaction.

Of course, it's always trial and error, some food I cook so far are not bad, some very good and some not so good. However, when food is wrongly cooked, not only the food goes to waste but time, money and effort goes to waste as well.

It's not a bad idea to take up some cooking lessons and get some tips so that when you try it out yourself next time, the possibility of the dish turning out bad would be lower (hopefully).

This website which I came across: http://learningcourses.com.sg has the LARGEST COLLECTION of courses in Singapore!!!

I was delighted to find that they have MANY kinds of cooking courses to choose from!! From Chinese, Korean, Japanese to Western cuisines and since Christmas is around the corner, they even have Christmas cooking classes available now!

Besides Cooking classes, there are many other courses to look for like Dancing lessons, Photography courses, Professional Diplomas, Computer Classes, Coffee Brewing lessons, Make Up courses, Marketing courses, SEO classes, Golf lessons, Yoga sessions, Photoshop courses, Swimming lessons, Arts classes, Kids Holiday classes any lessons or classes in Singapore are available!

Not only will you find courses here, if you happen to be teaching any course, you can also feature your course here.

I think it's a very convenient, one-stop directory to whatever course you want to take up. For the young or the old, no matter what age, it's never too late to start learning!

Do check out LEARNING COURSES because you will never know, your life might be changed forever!
